GES040 Albert Bridge

Built in 1873 by Rowland Mason Ordish, it was strengthened later on by sewer hero, Sir Joseph Bazalgate. It was originally a toll bridge, but proved unsuccessful. It's now the only Thames bridge in London still with Toll booths. Along with Tower Bridge it's the only London Thames bridge never to have been replaced, although it's probably the weakest of all London bridges and needs constant upgrades. Source: Wikipedia
The bridge as it was when I explored here, now both pillars are wrapped in white sheets.

I'd reccied it already, and thought I had the access point sussed, trying to predict the angle of the cctv 'oh hello' cameras. But on arrival I wasn't sure, and a dome cam on a neighbouring property clearly covered the original access point. So I looked to hop over the fence into Battersea Park. Which went a bit wrong when a cop car pulled up nearby, clearly watching me. So I had to walk a quarter of a mile down the road until they buggered off. Inside, I didn't hang around and got onto the scaff and up.

First stop was under the bridge tower arch, to see if i'd been spotted, and to make sure the way was clear to continue up. Luckily there were no bridge lights, so I had reasonable cover.

I thought my vertigo might kick in, but the top was pretty flat boards and I felt comfortable.

I had other things to do tonight, so I cracked on. South first

Then out came sammy for some 8mm action

Then some Tokina on the North Bank

After trying to capture the crescent moon over central London, it was time to descend.

Waiting for a few drunks to scurry off, I busied myself at the tower arch.

Looking down the lever suspension, this would have been better if I knew how to operate a camera.

Where the lever supports are secured

A shot of what looks like an uncovered tramway, but Albert Bridge has never carried trams, it couldn't take the weight.

Dodging the cameras, and it was out of there. A nice little opportunistic solo explore.
