GES272 - Wandsworth Bridge
Living in Wandsworth at the time, I was used to all the bridges, and never really considered the fact it'd be possible to get inside one. Hammersmith Bridge has a suspension arm it's possible to climb up to the main arch support, but it's always busy. It wasn't until I happened to cycle over the bridge I noticed something that looked interesting. "Is that a way into the structure under the bridge?" I queried. I told Kev, and when we were next able to, he came over for look. Dressed appropriately we took it in turns to pop down. I went first, and ended up descending into a lattice of steel.
If I were more of a daredevil, I could have clambered around further over the water, but I wasn't bothered. I worked my way down to the bridge's pedestal for views underneath the structure. Above the cars and buses rumbled over, but down here was an element of serenity.
View looking East down river, the cement works lit in white, and next to it the development on the old Kops Brewery.
Looking West upstream to Putney, the recycling centre at the end of the row of lit up apartment blocks. And Wandsworth Park forms a black backdrop at the middle of the image.
Shot along the bridge from the outside looking North, cement works visible
Not much else to see, so I climbed back up to let Kev have a look around
