GES075 Ritz Cinema, Tunbridge Wells
While passing through Tunbridge Wells looking for a traditional Fish & Chip Shop for lunch. I spotted some blue hoardings running up the street. It seemed to be mostly shops, which was rather dull. Shops usually just involve the actual shop area, a back stock room and an admin area. So it was quite pleasing to spot the front hoarding of a Cinema poking out at the top.
I wandered around the building looking for possibilities. The back was screened off but I could see numerous entry points. I wasn't expecting the inside to be much. I slipped through a split in the metal screens, and within a few seconds was asked to leave by the frumpy car park attendant. I asked if she owned the property, she said she didn't. I wished her good day and continued up the other side of the hoardings. I jumped in through a window, and found the decidely screwed interior. This was the lobby, the original front doors were to the side of the 'Future Presentation.'
Spotted this strange object in one room, couldn't work out what it was for.
Another room, most were so buggered it was hard to work out what the former use was.
I think this was the 2nd Screen, bereft of seats.
Up the stairs...
The cinema had 3 screens, and yet I could only find 2. I think this may of been Screen 3, the small screen on the wall just to the left of the pillar may have been it. Legend has it that when this was a restaurant, it's where David Bowie's parents met.
This is the main screen, pretty trashed
Projection room, with the remnants of a projector.
Clearly over the course of a year the place has gotten a lot worse since Maniac's report on Derelict Places. However, as I haven't done a cinema before, I quite enjoyed the explore. There's something I like about seeing all the back stage 'Staff Only' places you don't normally get to see. If only it was in better condition.
