It's a tragic state of obsessive collecting/nerdism that made me and others collect the set of the triplets of Barbican. This was the last in the trilogy to be done, due to it being the hardest to access. Only Kev had made it up using an elaborate method.
This is what we're talking about.

We'd had a busy night, watching fireworks bring in another year, then running around beneath Europe's tallest building structure. The group had been a considerable 12 at the start but whittled its way down to just four when we reached here. Kaitie and her fella Zenthir, and also Max Fishbrain who I had the pleasure of meeting for the first time. To keep being spotted to a minimum, we split into groups of two, and Fishbrain and I went first, quickly followed by the others. It was then the seemingly never-ending climb to the top. Doing skyscrapers is great, but climbing them is a pain, usually of a repetitive nature.

Once up top it was useful to have the dainty young Kaitie and the ugly brute strength of myself, together we made things happen, and we were out on a balcony observing the view. However, this wasn't going to placate us. So a precarious climb up with a small chance of finding the fastest way down from 40 storeys came next. I can't deny an element of underpants-filling moments occurred as my time came to climb up and join the others. Once up we tip-toed around a large glass roof of someone's apartment, it was time to battle the strengthening wind and questionable radiation from various transmitters. The views made it worth it though. This is looking North, the A1 is the main lit-up road on the left.Looking East, one sees Cromwell Tower in the foreground, the rising construction of Heron Milton Place in front of Ropemaker on the left of Cromwell Tower.

The skyscrapers of London, Canary Wharf at the back, City of London in front of it, and the rapidly nearing completion Shard. Below the Heron, and to the right of Ropemaker is the oval bowl of Finsbury Circus. Below is one of the two quadrangles that make up the Barbican estate, the white pipe-like roof of the Guildhall School of Music in the left-hand corner.

Wren's masterpiece St. Pauls is in the foreground, balanced out by the London Eye and the Shard on either side. The low round building in the foreground, wrapped in the streetlight, is the Museum of London and the start of the London Wall.

West is the first of the triplets to climb, Lauderdale tower, and behind Soho.

One can also see directly down into Barbican station, where one set of tracks used to go under Smithfield's Market. The tracks on the right are the main tracks.

And with the others having descended to a warmer place below, I was keen to join them. My heading throbbing with all the various radio and microwaves it's absorbed. It was then a reverse of the ascent, getting dizzy going around and around and around and around... Cheers to all for company and the end of a good night.
