GES256 - Warzawa Nights
I'd visited Poland twice before, but never with exploring in mind. The main reason for the visit was to hit up the drains of Łódź. We had a night in Warzawa first, and set about seeing what opportunities the city could offer. Towering over the old town, this church provided a first occasion for mischief. A simple scaff climb got us higher than most of the surrounding buildings. This is one of numerous Catholic Churches in Poland, a predominantly Catholic country that produced a Pope. St. John's Archcathedral is one of the oldest in the country, dating back to the 14th Century in the Masovian Gothic Style. It's been rebuilt numerous times, the latest being after World War II, when it was obliterated by the Nazi's and Soviet Army.
Angelina being fearless, she set off up the precarious staples in the wall to the apex of the Archcathedral's roof. I tried myself but a mixture of fear and being unable to climb with a backpack ended it after a few staples. They're so close to the wall, that it's difficult to maintain centre of gravity, and a backpack throws you off centre.
I settled for some pics of the rooftops of Warzawa, illuminated under the moon.
A quick drive across town, and we were into a train station, over a mesh fence and into some live tunnels for the suburban rail service. Looking out to the station below.
Zero and Marta acting completely normally in a doorway between tunnels.
Taillights from a passing train, looking deeper into the tunnel. The cut and cover roof fully exposed, and plenty of handy alcoves to hide from trains in.
From here we went on to drive through the early dawn hours to Łódź, how we made it so tired I don't know.
