GES021 - Kentish Town Baths
Kentish Town Leisure Centre (Formerly St. Pancras Public Baths)
Historical photos can be found here.
This used to be Kentish Town Swimming Baths, but has been gloriously restored by GLL Ltd into a modern leisure centre. Hats off to them for maintaining our architectural heritage.
A quick rendezvous with Kev and a check to see if Mr.Security was at home. Luckily he wasn't. So into the basement through lots of gauges, pipes and dials, throbbing noises, we wandered.
Past a room with a few security jackets lying about, and then creeping up the stairs. PE checked the security room for the all clear. We then crept up to the first floor. I'm a sucker for a good staircase.
It was nice to see the lovely roof structure still in place in the gym areas, with iron pillars.
The length of the room provided a lovely shot of the ceiling, Kev in the right doorway.
A wander round the dressing rooms and staff area, and then back to the landing. The gantry on the first floor around the swimming pool was just awesome.
And after skipping past the cctv and sensor alarms, we got in to see the main pool. I actually feel quite proud of this photo, not often I say that, but it's a corker!
Cheers to Kev for the tip off and company.
I would return a week or so later with TheSpaniard, the intention was to recreate the REM song video, Nightswimming, complete with towels! Unfortunately, when we checked the security office, we found a guard fast asleep. Worried we might wake him, we cleared off.
